Nederlandse Kooikerhondje Club of Southern California

WHO WE ARE
The Nederlandse Kooikerhondje Club of Southern California (NKCSC) organizes activities in Southern California.
Our club follows the American Kennel Club (AKC) Code of Sportsmanship and you will be asked to agree as well.
We assist AKC in gathering information about activities of purpose-bred dogs, therefore, the application will include several questions about you and your dog interests. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our club secretary at nkcsc_secretary@kooikerhondje.org
Why Join Our Local Kooikerhondje Club?
Your life just changed, you have a Kooiker!
Ever considered getting involved with a Kooikerhondje breed club? That question may feel intimidating until you learn that the NKCSC is filled with dog lovers like you. Getting involved is a great way to make new friends, attend fun events, and find out about training opportunities in Southern California.
Our club is dedicated to the education, training, care, and overall well-being of the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje. Some of our members have had the breed for decades. Their experience is invaluable to those of us with Kooiker puppies for the first time. We have specialists willing to share advice about health and wellness issues, or teach about Kooiker pedigrees from around the world. We have members with expanded knowledge about conformation who can give advice about training Kooikers for presentation and dog show etiquette. Others are master agility trainers and obedience competitors. Kooikers of some members enjoy performance sports and achieve family dog awards. Our members can provide support from training basics to breed-specific behavior quirks.
When we meet together, love and care for our breed grows. Our members are dedicated to the history and future of the Kooikerhondje. Getting involved is a great way to help in the important task of preserving this breed.
The most important thing our club does is promote responsible breeding and provide information to prospective puppy buyers. Kooikerhondjes are not well-known. They are adorable dogs but also smart, sensitive, active and a breed that enjoys working. It is essential that people know what to expect should they choose a Kooikerhondje.
Our club supports research into issues specifically important to Kooikerhondje and promote the world-wide database recording litters and health of Kooikers.
How Do I Fit In?
If you have a passion for the Kooikerhondje, you are in. Our memberships are made of people from all walks of life dedicated to preserving and supporting the Kooikerhondje breed. Consider helping with parties, educational trainings, newsletters, and dog meet-ups for members and the public. Ask about helping with our clubs’ dog shows. Even if your dog’s task is being the loving family pet, we can support you caring for your dog and we need your help as well.
What Are the Differences Between Club Types?
The American Kennel Club (AKC)
The AKC is a collection of clubs that associate together and agree to follow similar organizational rules for their clubs and follow the same rules in dog sport competitions that offer points toward AKC championship titles. The purpose of having similar rules among AKC clubs is to promote sportsmanship, fairness and promote non-profit clubs managed by club members.
The “National” or “Parent” Specialty Club
AKC Selects one club as the national club for each AKC recognized breed. The national club for our breed, also called the parent club, is the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje Club of United States of America (NKCUSA). This club holds a conformation dog show every year called the National Specialty. For information please visit www.akc.org or www.nkcusa.org.
“Local” or “Regional” Specialty Clubs
Nederlandse Kooikerhondje Club of Southern California (NKCSC) is a local specialty club serving the interests of the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje breed on a local level. This club holds events in the Southern California region. NKCSC currently holds informal regional matches. NKCSC is committed to the mission statement of AKC and follows the AKC Code of Sportsmanship.
